Breast Cancer Awareness is important to me for many reasons. Not only because it impacts women as a whole, but it has had it's impact on me personally through people I know and love.

My Great Aunt Ruby Martin (Maston) passed away after battling it; My Aunt Jeanne (my Mom's oldest sister) battled it; one of my best friends Leona Hamrick in Florida was diagnosed with it in 2014; and my Mom's best friend Cindy McHugh Reckard battled it, and still battles the after effects. She and Mom went through their fight with Cancer together. They were diagnosed around the same time, and were able to understand each other's fears before each Dr. Appointment or Test. I asked Cindy to stand with me while I gave my Mother's eulogy.

This is just an example of four strong, beautiful, and inspiring women who have battled Breast Cancer. It does appear to be something that you are at higher risk of developing if it runs in your family, and it does mine, so it gives me even more reason to promote awareness.

Some day, I hope it's something Women don't have to live in fear of. Until then, we have to try our best to promote research; self-examinations; and for everyone to seek a Dr. if they have any fears at all.
